APAC report given by Vesta Papafagos as follows:
APAC is trying to determine services needed and assign priorities accordingly. White House
Conference on Aging had a meeting in Austin but travel costs for Houston representatives were a
consideration. There will be a conference February 24 at the Hobby Hilton Hotel and one in
Washington, D. C. in May. The Houston conference will concentrate on: Economic
considerations, Long-term care and Crimes impact on older Americans. There will be six "Focus
Groups" discussing specifics of the above subjects and numerous "high-profile" speakers.
The state supplies 13% of the Council's budget. Problems in WUP are same as elsewhere - just
not as many: people who will not accept help, crime, abuse, run-down property, transportation,
health concerns, etc.

Tom Malloy reported they have 57 active recipients and 3 floaters. He also read a letter of
appreciation to West University group.

pay $400,000 for ball park lights. Discussion followed regarding benefits for children vs.
benefits for older residents and are there statistics on how many households in WUP have
children.
