CALL TO ORDER:
MEMBERS ABSENT:
Randy Hardy,
Treasurer
GUESTS PRESENT:
Bobbie Hardy
in the Loggia of the Community
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Jane Breazeal
at 3:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes were read and approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Announcements were read by Joan Eccles and discussed.
MONTHLY REPORT:
With reference to Student Nurses visiting elderly patients -
nurses think patient should be in nursing home, but son
doesn't think so as she has cats and dolls that she loves.
Joan says she is inclined to agree with the son. But in the
other case where a husband had been taking care of his wife
and the husband died suddenly, she (Joan) thinks a nursing
home would be the answer.
TREASURER'S REPORT:
The Treasurer's Report was given by Bobbie Hardy and
approved. We thank her.
APAC:
Mr. Wickerham said at the meeting Mr. Ivan Arceneaux was
introduced as the new leader. Very personable and seemed to
know his business and promised he would be there ten years,
no more nor less. Now that there is a leader, things better
organized. There will be a Baylor Showcase on Aging - some
fifty people to have exhibits. In certain sections of the
city, an effort will be made to have regular people that have
business in the neighborhood like meter readers to take
notice if something looks wrong and notify proper
authorities. Keeping an eye on what goes on wrong and notify
proper authorities. Keeping an eye on what goes on would be
worthwhile. Ten candidates are to be elected later and were
present and heard. Mrs. Doris Townes, APAC Chairperson
mentioned everything is political and everything needs money.
Need to get elected people to help. Mr. Wickerham asked if
we had seen the article in the paper about the Spanish
Speaking Group, used a Mercedes for delivery, etc. - money
spent unwisely. The Spanish speaking people want as big a
piece of pie as they can get, as do the Blacks. Makes a lot
of ill feeling.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Anna Lay Turner said there was some trouble in delivering the
lunches as they are all sick people and are getting tests and
don't get home on time, or forget to get home on time. The
Forum Class sends filled crackers from Randall's. Also sent
them nice potatoes and the people were told to cook them with
the skins on and eat the skins too - which they liked. She
ordered the dry dinners that we talked about last meeting and
those who received them liked them. They are equivalent to
Top Shelf, but cheaper. A girl scout troop rode with the
people who delivered lunches and gave the people pencil wells
made to hold two pencils and a scratch pad that they made,
and also sang for them.
GARDEN CLUB:
Florence Worste ll said the Garden Club will have it's flower
show on the 27th, and everyone will judge. Judging will be
at 10:00 a.m. and viewing at 10:30 to 11:00. On April the
24th they will go to Galveston. They will take a ferry ride,
ride the trolleys and eat. Leave and return to Senior Wing.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dart Baseball players turned out in great number and everyone
had a great time at the Memorial Baptist Church. They won
one and lost one. Serious note, Bruce Barnes, one of the
players died the following week.
Square Dance and Line Dance not going too well. Need more
Bridge players on Wednesday.
NEW BUSINESS:
Marcel Hollingsworth and Peggy Darroh are new office
volunteers and Rita Miller, new driver.
Joan asked for ideas. Suggestions: mall walking, zoo trip.
Wait until cooler weather.
Joan mentioned a problem with school kids hanging around and
using the facilities until 5:30 or 6:00 in the evening.
Bobbie Hardy suggested calling the principal.
Jerry Burns sent word - if a Senior Citizen can't put out his
or her garbage to call him and he would take care of it.
Edna Wright sent thanks to everyone who helped her with the
collapsable walker.
Harold Smith moved for adjournment.
Respectfully submitted,
Dorothy Rieger
