TREASURER'S REPORT:
Randy Hardy gave the Treasurer's Report.
APAC REPORT:
'Mr. Wickerham said the Legislative Committee is trying to get
together a comprehensive family coverage health insurance.
There is a difference in what they want and what they can
afford. The Spanish Group always wants the most money.
Council allots the money to the groups. It is Federal money
and some think you don't have to account for it, but the
Government wants to know where every dollar goes and wants
receipts to back it up. It is investigating the Spanish
Group to see if they comply. Federal money must be kept
separate and not co-mingled with other accounts.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Baptist teenagers gave Meals on Wheels plastic Easter eggs
with candy in them to give those receiving meals. Other
teenagers gave sachets and Sister Virginia from St. Vincente
de Paul's church gave spiritual folders. Ms. Turner praised
Sister for all her help.
GARDEN CLUB:
Florence Worstell reported that the Garden Club will not meet
again until the Fall.
OLD BUSINESS:
Joan said the Health Fair was a big success and she has been
receiving thanks from those taking part and furnishing
services, and we are grateful for them. The Health Fair was
a success and the University of Texas nurses did a great
job planning and securing screeners and exhibitors. The
luncheon seminar on Utilizing Your Home to Maximize Your
Retirement Income" went well. Randy's portion of the program
was well received. Our Dart Baseball Team came in second in
their league.
NEW BUSINESS:
The raises in our property valuations was brought up and
Harold Smith suggested we do something to get the Mayor and
Council to double Senior citizen exemptions. He said we are
being penalized because of the new homes. Jane Breazeal said
she would talk to the AARP, and we decided to get as many
Seniors to go the next Council meeting a`s was possible.
Randy Hardy said the ambulance fees have gone up from $75.00
to $125.00. He suggested it is so expensive because the
police and fire department always accompany it.
Joan Eccles will be on vacation 3 weeks from May 1st. We
voted to cancel the May meeting.
Marie Fish asked for adjournment.
Respectfully submitted,
Dorothy Rieger
