CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Jane Breazeal
at 3:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes were read and approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Announcements were made by Joan Eccles and discussed. Her
announcements included: Glamour Grannies Luncheon, Lunch
Bunch at Shanghai Reds, Defensive Driving School. The
Defensive Driving course will be conducted by Coaches Driving
School because the AARP has still not been approved by our
State Government. Bridge Luncheon will be held every two
months on Monday at noon. Every last Monday bridge winners -
lst, 2nd and 3rd - get tickets for a free play. There will
be a van trip to Spring Shadows. Lei making class will be
after the Bridge luncheon.
MONTHLY REPORT:
The Monthly Reports for April and May were read by the
Coordinator.
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Treasurer's Report was given and approved.
APAC REPORT:
Mr. Wickerham reported they did not meet last month. The
Spanish Group still in trouble and being investigated.
Inquiry will be continued until the whole mess is cleared up.
He thanked the Board for the memorial.to his wife.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Mrs. Turner reported that she received the meals to be kept
on the shelf, to be used over holidays. She answered a
question as to weekend meals by saying some bought extra
meals on Friday to carry them over and others managed. The
day before July 4th, people will take hot food plus shelf
food for the next day. If they like it, she will continue to
serve it. She said she uses 49 drivers a week. Mrs. Turner
says she has some 99-year olds. One lady she would like for
us to meet. She is a Louisiana Republican,- educated and very
interesting. Another 98-year old, a Rice Professor, who just
died loved music and Rice played his favorites over their
loud speakers.
GARDEN CLUB:
Florence Worstell said, although the Garden Club does not
meet in the summer, Norma Boyker brought flowers and planted
them and Dorothy Rieger and Florence planted impatients.
Eric has had a hard time keeping them watered and the heat is
taking it's toll.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dorothy Shaw asked why when an ambulance was called the fire
and police departments had to go too, thus raising the cost.
Randy Hardy offered his services to members of the Board in
their Appraisal problems.
Joan said she has been approached by two different people,
telling her about someone who wants to donate money to Senior
Services, but not to the City. She doesn't know if both are
talking about the same person or if there are two people who
want to donate. We all agreed it would take a good lawyer,
with expertise in that line, to set it up properly. Randy
suggests when his church received money, it buys C. D.'s and
uses.the interest for things not on the budget. We are
afraid the City might cut off money if we receive it
elsewhere. We too would need a board to oversee the
expenditures.
We all agreed Sharon had done a good job in Joan's absence.
Move to adjourn was made by Florence Worstell and seconded by
Dorothy Shaw.
Respectfully submitted,
Dorothy Rieger
