Wickerham Jane Breazeal, Chairperson Dorothy Rieger, Secretary Randy Hardy, Treasurer Jim Council Marie Fish Dottie Shaw Harold Smith Anna Lay Turner Florence Worstell The Senior Services Board met in the Loggia of the Community Building. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal at 3:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes were read and approved. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Joan mentioned an elderly lady who has a full time maid who goes shopping with our Thursday group and everywhere else with her. The Senior fell in her house, breaking her hip, while waiting for groceries to be brought in by our Volunteer van driver. Another lady calls the police frequently to report missing things - like glasses and china that she doesn't use. Joan talked to her and believes her. A third Senior has been calling the mayor for three years reporting that a neighbor breaks into her house to steal a cup or towel or old nightgown. This appears to be a vivid imagination as police find no signs of entry. MONTHLY REPORT: Joan said she had to add to the budget the reupholstering of the van seats. She also said that the fan in the van jams, but the workmen won't listen when she tells them that - they just check the compressor. A bad leak was found in the carburetor and if the gas had leaded out the van could have caught on fire. Ford Motor will fix the carburator. Dottie Shaw said the Ford Motor- Company should investigate at every 8,000 miles. The bus trip to Galveston was very successful, dinner good, music marvelous. The Hawaii trip will be in September. The group going will be small. TREASURER'S REPORT: The Treasurer's Report was given and approved. APAC REPORT: Wick Wickerham was absent because of illness, so no report from APAC. MEALS ON WHEELS: Anna Lay Turner reported things going well with Meals on Wheels. She has been getting large-print books for the Seniors and also how-to books for children. She picks them up once a month instead of every two weeks. She said the book about Lee Iacocoa was good. NEW BUSINESS: Jim Council suggested a letter of protest about the tax rate because of the big raise in our evaluations. He said the Seniors were short-changed. Harold Smith suggested we also try to get the Homestead Exemption to persuade the younger people to help. It was decided that Dalia Stokes would write a letter requesting an increased Senior Tax Exemption and it was unanimously agreed that we would all sign. It turned out that none of us were happy with the tax situation. Dorothy Rieger suggested we have a representative at the council meetings when the money someone wants to leave to the Seniors is discussed, the group nominated Dalia to represent us. It was agreed. The Board then decided to have representatives at the council meetings as often as possible and Dottie Shaw nominated Dorothy Rieger and Marie Fish nominated Jane Breazeal; they were approved. Marie Fish made the motion for adjournment. Respectfully submitted, Dorothy Rieger TREASURER'S REPORT SENIOR SERVICES BOARD CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE AUGUST 9, 1990 BALANCE: 06/29/90 $1,205.41 DEPOSITS/CREDITS: 758.83 DISBURSEMENTS/DEBITS: 513.34 BALANCE: 11450.90 Respectfully su omitted, andy Har4
