D. Wickerham The Senior Services Board met in the Loggia of the Community Building. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal, at 3:35 p.m. PARKS BOARD: Carla Ray appeared on behalf of the Parks Board to describe the proposed improvements to City Parks and to ask for Senior Services support. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes were read and approved as read. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Lunch Bunch plans to lunch at the Swiss Chalet on Wednesday, October 11 at 11:00. A defensive driving course will be given on Fridays, October 19 and 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The T-shirt and sweatshirt design class is planning to meet on Mondays, October 26 and 29 at 2:30 p.m. There will be Tuesday health programs with a lecture and screening at 1:00 p.m. with a program on medications to be given on October 16, a lecture on vision given October 26, and a lecture on diabetes and glucose given on October 30. The Bridge group's covered dish luncheon is scheduled for Monday, October 29. The Halloween party has been canceled. A lecture on "Meals for One" is planned for Wednesday, November 7 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Dalia Stokes will give a lecture on Friday, November 9 at 11:00 a.m. on the subject of Wills, Trusts and Powers of Attorney. The luncheon thanking volunteers is scheduled for Wednesday, November 13 at noon. MONTHLY REPORT: Joan Eccles read the Monthly Report. TREASURER'S REPORT: Jane Breazeal read the Treasurer's Report, in Randy Hardy's absence. APAC REPORT: No report was given in Wick Wickerham's absence. MEALS ON WHEELS: No report was given in Anna Lay Turner's absence. COUNCIL MEETING REPRESENTATIVES REPORT: Dorothy Rieger reported that she had attended the zoning board meeting held at 6:30 p.m. at which a citizen was required by the city to fix up his house or move. The zoning board gave the citizen additional time to hire someone to fix up his house and to hire professional termite exterminators. Dalia Stokes reported that there did not appear to be any support on the Council for the increase of the Over-65 Exemption. GARDEN CLUB: No new business to report. OLD BUSINESS: Joan Eccles announced that the Senior Services board has been invited to attend the City Council meeting on Monday, October 15 at 6:30 p.m. to participate in the consideration of the reduction of the Over-65 Exemption. Joan Eccles further announced that Virgil's case has been closed and he has been officially terminated by the City. NEW BUSINESS: Joan Eccles announced that two non-functioning wheelchairs have been donated to the Parkinson's Society and that Senior Services stores the Parkinson's Society equipment. Because the wheelchairs are unusable, the Parkinson's Society has indicated they will likely give the wheelchairs away instead of paying approximately $143.00 each to have them repaired. The board approved the expenditure by the Senior Services to repair these two wheelchairs if the Parkinson's Society donates them to the Senior Services Department. Joan further announced that Eric has joined the Water Department, since his position as maintenance for the Senior Services building was assumed by another city maintenance worker who had been at City Hall. Joan announced that her last day as Senior Services Coordinator will be Friday, November 2, 1990 and that Sharon has accepted the offer to assume the coordinator position.
