CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by John Monahan, Chairperson. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes read by the secretary. Dalia Stokes motioned to accept; Tom Malloy seconded. PREVIEWS AND MONTHLY REPORT Sharon Reusser read the previews and monthly report. She added a day trip on February 28 tc the schedule. TREASURER'S REPORT Randy Hardy made the treasurer's report orally: Previous balance, December 31, $3903.48; deposits, $1130.00; spent, $125.00; Balance, $4908.48. SUNSHINE MEALS ON WHEELS Tom Malloy reported that the CCSC Advisory Committee met to consider ways to let more people know about the food services. They currently have a total of 160 clients but could handy 225 clients. Meals on Wheels also needs additional drivers. COUNCIL MEETING REPORT Dorothy Rieger reported by mail that the lot at Auden and Rice recently purchased by the city may become a pocket park. Water meters are now being read by a contract company rather than by city employees. A PAC APAC, in a program funded through Title 3, and in cooperation with AARP is training volunteers who visit nursing homes to get to know the patients, employees, and conditions of the facilities. There have been 824 visits made to 70 nursing homes and home care homes. Volunteers hav( made 483; the remainder by the staff. The volunteers and staff have authority to discuss complaints and attempt to resolve them. The Council on Aging is preparing a booklet on aging and the Houston Junior Forum has a booklet covering services to seniors. OLD BUSINESS Approximately 150 persons attended the opening of Milton Park and received seedlings. Flags on University Boulevard were placed there by the Rotary Club. NEW BUSINESS Dianne Rogers is recruiting volunteers to be part of a team that visits and evaluates senior programs. Each team visits six to eight programs and determines whether the program is a good use of United Fund monies. She gave Sharon bulletins on the Volunteer Review Process Volunteers are also needed in the senior service office and for grocery shopping. The Board voted to spend $150.00 for a thank you gift for the St. George volunteers who prepared and served the spaghetti dinner. Tom Malloy made the motion, Randy Hardy seconded. John Monahan will find out what gift the volunteers will most appreciate. Marie Fish is scheduled for back surgery on February 15 or 16.
