The Senior Services Board met in the Senior Wing of the Community Building.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by John Monahan, Chairperson.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes read by the secretary. Ruth Nelson motioned to accept; Dalia Stokes seconded.
PREVIEWS AND MONTHLY REPORT
Sharon Reusser read the previews and the monthly report. Wick Wickerham motioned to accept
the previews; Tom Malloy seconded. Tom Malloy motioned to accept the monthly report; Ruth
Nelson seconded.
TREASURER'S REPORT
Ruth Nelson read the treasurer's report. Marie Fish motioned to accept; Dianne Rogers
seconded.
AARP REPORT
Ruth Nelson reported that the Bayou Bend tour and the Rainbow Lodge trip had been cancelled
SUNSHINE MEALS ON WHEELS
Tom Malloy reported that the service has 48 clients. A plan to assist Randall's in delivering
flowers to clients has been cancelled. Ruth Ann Wissel motioned to accept; Ida Feux seconded
COUNCIL MEETING REPORT
Dorothy Rieger reported that Council passed a new sign ordinance limiting size to two square
feet per side; replaced a police car; discussed limiting the additional taxi fee charged airport
passengers whose destination is inside West University; changed the ordinance limiting framed
area for new residential contruction; and decided to offer job search counseling to the City
Manager's wife who had to leave a position to move here. She added that the library is
delivering books to homebound seniors.
John Monahan reported that Council approved the recycling center.
NEW BUSINESS
Dalia Stokes is serving on the West University Party nominating committee. She described
briefly the structure of the party and said that anyone interested in running for office is
encouraged to let the committee know.
A proposal to set aside funds that would be available to low income residents to make
necessary repairs to their homes was discussed. The loans would not be repaid until the housE
was sold. Inspectors would determine what repairs are necessary. After a general discussion of
the proposal, Dianne Rogers volunteered to obtain information about similar projects.
