HomeMy WebLinkAboutssminutes061297SENIOR SERVICES MINUTES JUNE 12, 1997 MEMBERS PRESENT: Sharon Reusser - Manager John Monahan - Chairperson Ruth Nelson - Acting Secretary/Treasurer Ida Fuex Marie Fish Tom Malloy Dorothy Rieger Dalia Stokes John Valcik MEMBERS ABSENT: Mary Lee Gray Randy Hardy Dianne Rogers Ruth Ann Wissel The Senior Services Board met in the Senior Wing of the Community Building. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by John Monahan, Chairperson. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes of May 8, 1997 meeting were read by Ruth Nelson. Tom Malloy made motion to accept, Ida Fuex seconded. PREVIEWS: Read by Sharon Reusser. Motion to approve made by Ruth Nelson; seconded by Tom Malloy. MONTHLY REPORT: Read by Sharon Reusser. An item re John Cardone's sewer hook-up resulted in a discussion to ascertain who have and have not hooked up to new sewer lines. Also, Sharon informed Marie Fish that John Cardone goes to Sheltering Arms on Monday so she should call him Thursday afternoon. Marie Fish made motion to accept; Ida Fuex seconded. TREASURER'S REPORT: Read by Ruth Nelson. Motion to accept made by Tom Malloy; seconded by John Valcik. AARP REPORT: None. SUNSHINE MEALS ON WHEELS: Tom Malloy reported deliveries have increased to 49. We lost a long-time resident - Janet Cornitius, who moved from area. Marie Fish told of several recipients who have complimented the meals. Dorothy Rieger motioned to accept report, Ida Fuex seconded. COUNCIL MEETING REPORT: Dorothy Rieger reported the Council members decided to rotate the office of Mayor Pro- tem; and named new appointments to Committees and Boards. John Valcik made motion to accept, Dalia Stokes seconded. RECYCLING COMMITTEE REPORT: John Monahan reported West University Place has won another award; and discussions are on going re fees for excess bags and kind of bags to use for yard waste. OLD BUSINESS: I. Sharon read thank you cards from CCSC, family of Anna Lay Turner and her daughter's tribute given at her funeral. 2. Applications for Senior Services Board members should be mailed soon. Present members serve through August. Several present members have indicated they plan to retire so new members are needed. NEW BUSINESS: 1. A "Town Hall" meeting will be held June 12th at 7:00 in Community Building concerning an proposed assisted living facility at Bissonnet/Academy/Browning/Wesleyan. A discussion of pros and cons (mostly cons) followed. 2. Office closed Friday, July 4, 1997. MOTION TO ADJOURN: Datia Stokes made motion, John Valcik seconded.
