HomeMy WebLinkAboutssminutes030900City of West University Senior Services Board of Directors Meeting Minutes for 03/09/00 The Senior Services Board of Directors meeting was called to order on March 9, 2000 at 2:30 PM by chair Mary Lee Gray after appointed Stan as temporary secretary, with the following members present. Mary Lee Gray, Sharon Reusser, Betty Aillet, Lola Brooks, Joe Graff, Maureen Graff, George Harbeson, Tom Malloy, Stan McCandless, Ken Moore, Dorothy Zink, Bob Park, Lynn Old, Alice O'Neil: absent- Dalia Stokes, Lorraine Greenleaf. Denise Beck, board member of CCSC, introduced our special guest Michelle Shonbeck, Director of the Christian Community Service Center. Michelle discussed the various CCSC programs that included the Elderly and Disabled, HiV, Domestic Violence, a Crisis Emergency Service Center and Sunshine Meals on Wheels. CCSC is a consortium of 35 member churches. She also talked about her 1 million dollar budget and outfitting 3,400 children for school, among other things. A motion by Lola and seconded by Stan was made to approve the previous board minutes upon re-submission. Sheron then discussed the Previews of coming events. A complete list of those activities is on fde with Sheron. Betty moved to approve the Previews and Alice seconded the motion. Joe made the Treasurers Report showing a balance of $4,577.52 as of 02/29/2000 and a motion to approve was made by Lola and seconded by Ken. Tom reported that 54 meals were delivered during the last period. There are 5 routs and 49 drivers. There was no report from the representative to the city Recycling Committee. Bob made an APAC (Area Planning and Advisory Council) report on the meeting held March 2, 2000. Comments were made about nutritional guidelines, home repair and the tobacco settlement claims. A mission statement was discussed and area needs for citizens 60 years and older. Dorothy made a report on the February 14, and 28, 2000 City Council meetings. Council Member John Bertini read a moving letter of commendation for JMH as the outstanding group of the month. The Good neighbor Team report was made to the City Council and was well received. The city is moving closer to completing the things to be in compliance with the ISO rating insurance requirements. The Traffic Task Force has made some traffic calming recommendations for Sunset and new blue and white signs to be installed. Two new police officers have been hired by the City. The last house on Colonial Park has been acquired by the City. Under Previous Business: Maureen said that the Good Neighbor Team pilot program was ready. Volunteers orientation meeting is scheduled for March 13, 2000. Five people are scheduled to be visited. Senior Services would share the Recycling Committee's tent during the Home Place Celebration on April 1, 2000 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The tent will be located on the driveway, the west side of West U. Elementary School. Lynn is preparing to target mid April for the second publishing of our news letter. Dorothy has arranged to have the Wheel Chairs cleaned. Under New Business: Lola read to us her letter of resignation from the Senior Services Board. She will be moving to The Terrace at West U. 5151 Buffalo Speedway. There was a reception with drinks, cake and cookies for Lola after the meeting. We will miss her at our board meetings but hope to see her continuing to participate in our senior activities. Maureen Beck was proposed as a replacement for Lola and was approved by the Board.
