Senior Services Board
Minutes of Board of directors' Meeting on June 08, 2000
Mary Lee Gray, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.
Members Present: Betty Aillet, Joe Graf, Maureen Graf, Mary Lee Gray,
George Harbeson, Tom Malloy, Kenneth Moore, Lynn Old, Alice O'Neill, Bob Park,
Dorothy Zink. Guests Mayor Lewis, City Manager Sherman Yehl and Parks and
Recreation Director Mark Mailes.
Mary Lee introduced Mr. Yehl. He explained the proposed leveling of fees,
especially for non-resident participants. Council feels that Seniors, like other groups of
non-residents should pay a fair share of the expenses involved in operating Senior
Services.
A question and answer period followed. A particular concern of the Board was
whether the imposing of fees was contrary to the principle of "services" to seniors. No
other area groups put a surcharge on non-residents. Also the proposed fee for use of the
mini-bus was felt to be excessive. It was decided that the Board prepare a position paper
to be presented to Council at the June 26th Special Session. Mary Lee urged all members
to contact her with opinions and suggestions for this report and asked members to attend
that meeting.
Previews: Were not read. Members urged to read on their own.
Minutes: Not read.
Treasures Report: Not available at this time
Sunshine Meals: Tom reported he would continue to contact Debbie Brown, CCSC
Meals Coordinator so we can be kept up to date on activities. Current
client count 57. CCSC continues to work on its transportation
program and is planning quarterly newsletter. Tom will be on the
mailing list.
Recycle: No Report
APAC: Dorothy Zink gave report. Meeting being streamlined. Need for
members is urgent. They supply meals to 724 homes. The waiting list
numbers 800 and it takes 30 -60 days to get on the list.
Council: Dorothy did not attend so she had no report. She did pass around a
questionnaire by the Traffic Task Force to ask Buffalo Speedway
residents.
Good Neighbor: Continuing its work. There is a need for more members on the
committee.
Senior Census: Almost finished
Hi Neighbor: Next issue distributed with activities calendar in August. Members
were urged to contribute items. Mary Lee submitted a summary of
expenses for these committees which totaled $687.69. This figure is
low, since much of the expense was donated.
