HomeMy WebLinkAboutssminutes081000City of West University Place Senior Services Board of Directors' Meeting for August 10, 2000 Co-Chairman Ken Moore called the meeting to order at 2:33 p.m. Members present: Ken Moore, Stan McCandlass, Tom Malloy, Bob Park, Maureen and Joe Graf, Alice O'Neill, George Harbeson, Lyn Old, Maureen Beck; Members Absent: Mary Lee Gray, Dorothy Zink, Dalia Stokes, Betty Aillet. Minutes of the July 13d' meeting were read and approved. Sharon Ruesser, Director, Senior Services, read the "Previews" and they were approved The Treasurer's reports dated July 13 and August 10 were read and approved Reports: Sunshine Meals on Wheels. Tom Malloy reported that 156 meals were delivered last month, 56 for West University residents. They are still asking for volunteer drivers. Bellaire High School will deliver hot meals on Thanksgiving, continuing this tradition of many years. Sharon asks for names for this event. Recycle Committee: Bins will be coming out. Wheels may be added for $5. Stan suggests that the real estate companies be asked to donate wheels for seniors.--- APAC: Bob Park reported on the August 3rd meeting. An unsatisfactory report will be made by the Committee t sited the Town Park Nursing Home. mors shoVd contact Koyne Smith Benefits Councilor at 713 - 794- 1 vi if they ~naave any questions about the widrawal or Medicare benefits by the HM 's that are serving the greater Houston area. City Council: Sharon reported that the intersection of Auden/Rice will be closed for 4 weeks beginning August 14 for installation of the brick pavers. Senior Census: Ken said there is no new information since the July 13`s report Newsletter: Lyn Old said that Katy Damon will help her in writing the newsletter, next addition should reach homes about September 30 Call her with ideas and suggestions.( 713-838-0907, or Katy Damon, 713- 668- 3676). There was some discussion about serving the 55+ group. Previous Business: No comments. New Business: Sharon reported on activities for the fall. There will be an "Airplane Trip" on Friday, October 6. The volunteer lunch will be held in November The Maritime Museum will be visited in November. There will be a return to "Rienzi" in December to see the mansion with its Christmas decorations.
