HomeMy WebLinkAboutssminutes110900City of West University Place 11/2000 Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of 11/09/2000. The Senior Services Advisory Board meeting was called to order at 2:35 PM by Chair, Mary Lee Gray and Stan McCandless was appointed Temporary Secretary. The following Board members and Staff were present: Mary Lee Gray, Sharon Reusser, Mark Mailes, Maureen Graff, George Harbeson, Tom Malloy, Stan McCandless, Ken Moore, Lynn Old, Alice O'Neil, Absent: Dalia Stokes, Betty Aillet, Resigned Members: Dorothy Zink and Bob Park. The Previous Board Minutes of 10/12/2000 were approved with corrections upon their presentation. The fibrillator(sp) was donated to the Fire Department by the Sentinel Club (correction); Sharon then discussed the Previews of Coming Events that described various events from Tuesday, November 14 through Friday, December 22 and were approved. Ken presented the Treasurers Report dated 11/09/2000, showing a beginning balance of $3,439.98 as of 10/12/2000 and an ending balance of $3,395.16 dated 11/09/2000. The treasurer's report was accepted. The Activity Recap of the Galveston trip dated 09/27/00, Airplane Parry of 10/06/00 and Alvin trip of 11/01/00 showed the financial details, net gains and losses of each activity and were informative about each activity. Tom reported that 60 Sunshine Meals on Wheels per day were delivered on five separate routs and 22 of those meals went to West U residents. Recycling Committee. Plastic recycling bins are to be distributed city wide. The Recycling Committee is fitting wheels to the bins for seniors at no charge and is trying to figure out a way to get each bin to each senior. Mary Lee attended the APAC (Area Planning and Advisory Council) meeting. She reports there was a discussion about funds for meals for holidays and weekends for those in need. HUD has some rent money and $125,000 house "fix-up" money. The Senior Board members are to make a house survey of West U. Discussions on state regulations on Assisted Living and Dental Care were held. A new representative to APAC needs to be appointed from Senior Services to APAC. Dorothy Zink has been appointed as a Special Representative to that organization from West U. The City Council Report was given by Mary Lee. The 2001 city budget has been deferred until after the results of the election have been validated. All the Charter revisions and Sidewalk Bonds passed. The initiative for the Public Safety Officers pay raises failed. Mary Lee would like some help in attending City Council Meetings. Committee Reports: The Good Neighbor Team report was delivered by Stan about the continuing effort to update the Policies and Procedures manual and the introduction of an organizational chart. The News Letter report was given by Lynn. She wants to have a year end issue of "Hi Neighbor", which will include a historical house revitalization article by June Beggeman. Previous Business: A very informative activity recap of the Monthly Highlights was presented for October. The Transportation Activity report for October was presented in a very informative matrix showing all the driver names, the destinations and number of trips made. This would enable an estimate of the total volunteer hours per month spent in this activity. Donations: The Laura Higgley account and the $1,800 from AARP who are disbanding their local organization were discussed. A senior space court yard at the entrance to our building and Anna Lee Turner who started Sunshine Meals on Wheels out of her kitchen were discussed. A comprehensive discussion and understanding of the CCSC donation by the City of West U for the Sunshine Meals on Wheels activity was held with Mark. Under New Business: A nominating committee composed of Maureen, Joe, Lynn, and George was appointed by our chair to propose new members. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 4:00, respectfully submitted by Stan McCandless, temporary secretary.
