Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of 12/14/2000
The Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting was called to order at 2:35 P.M. by Vice-
Chair Ken Moore and Sharon Reusser took minutes as Temporary Secretary.
The following Board members and Staff were present: Betty Aillet, Maureen Beck,
Maureen Graf, Tom Malloy, Ken Moore, Lynn Old, and Sharon Reusser. We had a
guest, Sherman Yehl, City Manager of West University Place.
The previous Board meeting minutes of November 9, 2000 were reviewed, corrected,
motioned and voted for acceptance.
Sherman Yehl introduced the home renovation program to be implemented in January
2001. The Harris County Community Development Department hasaccepted the city's
proposal for a $100,000.00 grant to help repair five to seven homes to building standards.
The 0% deferred payment loans will be made to low-income residents for electrical,
structural, plumbing, heating and air conditioning work. Also acceptable will be
carpentry to widen doorways and making homes accessible to the handicapped.
Various city departments will help in the completion of the implementation, application
paperwork, bidding process, selection of contractors and inspection of the work. Our
Board has been requested to help at any level possible.
A seminar will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 to introduce the residents to the
program and will spell out the rules and regulations of family size, income, levels of
necessity, etc. which will be led by Sherman Yehl. The Board members asked a few
follow up questions of the city manager.
The Previews were then read by Sharon and approved by the Board.
Ken presented the Treasurer's report which showed no activity. It was approved.
The Board reviewed the Activity Recap of the Volunteer Party held November 8, 2000.
Tom reported that the number of meals delivered by the Sunshine Meals on Wheels has
increased to 62 and they were very appreciative of the nine hot meals delivered by the
Bellaire High School students on Thanksgiving Day.
There was no formal Recycle Committee reports but comments were made regarding the
delivery of the blue recycle bins and the fact that bins with wheels are available to all
seniors who request them.
There were no APAC, City Council or Good Neighbor reports.
There was more discussion about the donation form the defunct AARP chapter. As there
is no firm dollar figure, the Board decided to contemplate it later. The holiday schedule
was announced. Lynn Old requested that information for the "Hi Neighbor" newsletter
be given by Dec. 27tH
The meeting was adjourned at 4:15. Respectfully submitted by Sharon Reusser,
