Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of 05/10/2001
The Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting was called to order at 2:35 P.M. by Chair
Mary Lee Gray and Sharon Reusser took minutes.
The following Board members and Staff were present: Betty Aillet, Maureen Beck,
Jeannine Bergt, Ann Bertini, Joe Graf, Maureen Graf, George Harbeson, Tom Malloy,
Ken Moore, Alice O'Neill, Lynn Old, Sharon Reusser, Dalia Stokes. Guests present:
Mayor Linda Lewis, Mark Mailes, and Anke Runge.
Mark spoke on the several possibilities for a Senior Lounge. Options were discussed.
Anke Runge, from the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center spoke about
their-Aging-Resources Information Support and Education (ARISE) program.
The group briefly looked at the Previews. There was no activity in the Treasurer's
Report. Sunshine Meals on Wheels was discussed. A transportation system sponsored by
Gordon Quan's office was reintroduced. Mary Lee requested that everyone keep on top
of Austin's H.B.1421. Linda mentioned that there would be a dinner sometime in June
honoring all Board members. She spoke enthusiastically about the new Council.
The Good Neighbor Team report was made by Mary Lee. The city has agreed to buy a
computer if Senior Services pays for the furniture involved. Lynn discussed the Hi
Neighbor newsletter; she needs Volunteers to help write and edit. Ken talked about the
Senior Cencus; around 500 have been returned with 10 to 12 new names added to the list.
Ann briefly reiterated the thoughts of the Planning Committee on the lounge. Activities
held the past month were highlighted by Betty. Discussion was made on how to spend
donated monies. Mary Lee asked for people to attend a tour of the Huffington Center
Thursday, May 17 at 10:00. CPR/first aide classes will be scheduled for June and July.

close this account. All future transactions will be handled through the City
