Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting Minutes of 10/11/2001
The Senior Services Advisory Board Meeting was called to order at 2:35 P.M. by Stan
McCandless, acting as chair and Sharon Reusser took minutes.
The following Board members and staff were present: Betty Aillet, Maureen Beck, Joe
Graf, George Harbeson, Tom Malloy, Stan McCandless, Ken Moore, John Neighbors,
Sharon Reusser, Mary Ryerson, and Elizabeth Young. There were several visitors who
attended; Marilyn Griffin, Mark Mailes, Nancy McCall and Sherman Yehl.
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved with the addition of Betty Aillet
being present at the meeting.
Sherman Yehl, City Manager, opened the meeting with his thoughts to the role of the
Board and goals for the next couple of years including volunteerism, activities and the
computer center planned for the future.
A motion was made and carried to change the time of the Board meeting from 2:30 to
2:00 on the second Thursday afternoon of each month to begin with the November
meeting.
Mark Mailes introduced Nancy McCall, an interior designer, who shared some of her
thoughts on the furniture required for the front hall.
Marilyn Griffin reported on City Council discussions - Colonial Park plans, city
infrastructure and the adopted budget for the upcoming year.
A motion was made and carried that the furniture that Betty Aillet and Mary Ryerson
shopped for be purchased. Two love seats, three occasional chairs, two tables and two
book shelves will be bought from Hoffer Furniture Store.
A plea for volunteer drivers and office help was made by Pat Voros. She also requested
that volunteers submit their hours so she can keep up with those figures.
Sharon read the previews, they were approved. Sunshine Meals on Wheels: Everything
is fine. There was no Recycling Committee report. Maureen Beck attended the APAC
meeting, but as she had to leave a bit early, said she'd report next month.
There has been no immediate action for either the Senior Census or Planning
Committees. Betty Aillet made a report on the past months activities.
Previous Business: It was agreed that the Board would like a table at the Homefest
Celebration Saturday, October 27

Announcements were made: There was a discussion regarding the change of the name
from Senior Services to Adult services, how it transpired and how it might impact the
Services offered to West University Seniors and other adults. Elizabeth Young offered to
help Seniors who want to learn how to use computers.
