02/14/2002
Meeting started at 2:00 PM.
Attendees: Jeannine Bergt, Joe Graf, Elizabeth Young, Tom Malloy, Ken Moore, George
Harbeson, Anne Hershiser, Betty Aillet, Mary Ryerson, and John Neighbors. Staff
present was Sharon Reusser and Guest was Alisa Talley. Mayor Linda Lewis was
present. Absent were Maureen Beck, Ann Bertini and Stan McCandless.
Guest Alisa Talley (Administrative Assistant to City Manager) was introduced and a
discussion of the Hi Neighbor Newsletter ensued.
Previous meeting's Minutes approved with correction to spelling of Tom Malloy's name.
Previews and Sneak Previews were reviewed.
REPORTS
Sunshine Meals: Business in decline. 48 receiving meals in West University out of 158
total for CCSC. The need to better advertise this service was discussed briefly.
Recycle Meeting: No report.
APAC: No Report.
Council Meeting Report: Foundation repairs in the Senior activity building were
addressed by Council. Creative budgeting will be needed to deal with the budget
shortfall. Council has renewed discussion about the streetlights, but to re-negotiate with
HL&P could result in a delay causing this year's budgeted amount to be lost. A
volunteer group is being assembled for Sunday, March 10d' to clean up the Edloe strip.
Oleanders will not be removed
Good Neifhbor Team/Flying Squad Report: A coffee is scheduled for Wednesday,
March 13 at 10.30 AM at City Hall to familiarize residents with Good Neighbor Team
members and services
Hi Neighbor Newsletter: A Hi Neighbor Newsletter mailing was done the previous
week. Discussion of the Newsletter took place at various times during the meeting.
Topics ranged from when mail outs should take place, to whom they should go, the
information to be included, the size of the publication, coordination with City Currents,
and whether or not the Newsletter was redundant and should be continued. It was noted
that The Good Neighbor Team has had no discussion about the Hi Neighbor Newsletter
at its'meetings, thus a motion was made and passed that any decision about the
Newsletter be postponed until after the next Good Neighbor Team meeting. Expressions
of support for the Good Neighbor Team were made and the need for better
communications with them was discussed.
Senior Census: No report.
Activity Report: No report.
Previous Business:
A thank-you note to Marilyn Griffin for her assistance was read and passed for
signatures. Our usage of the YMCA is to be placed on the Agenda.
New Business: The Health Fair will be Tuesday April 23rd from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
St. Joseph's mobile clinic will do testing in exchange for donations to their food pantry or
for school supplies. These items will be available for sale at cost at the Fair. Computer
Lessons will be made available by Houston Community College on Friday March 8`h
from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at a cost of $30 per person.
