HomeMy WebLinkAboutssminutes121202WEST UNIVERSITY SENIOR SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES 12/12/2002 Meeting commenced at 2:00 PM, but was not formally called to order. Attendees: Tom Malloy, Elizabeth Young, George Harbeson, Mary Ryerson, John Neighbors, Betty Aillet, and Stan McCandless. Absent were Anne Hershiser, Joe Graf, Jeanne Bergt, Maureen Beck, and Ann Bertim. Staff present was Janiss Stump. Walter Thomas was a guest from the The City of West University place Finance Department. Previous meeting's Minutes were not read and approved. Meeting commenced with the passing out of the new City budget. Previews and Sneak Previews were reviewed at end of meeting. REPORTS Sunshine Meals: Recycle Meeting: No report. APAC: Council Meeting Report: The new City budget was passed out and reported on by Good Neighbor Team/Flying Squad Report: Hi Neighbor Newsletter: Activity Report: No report. Rotary - John Neighbors reported the Rotary is discussing ways to assist Senior Services, such as sponsoring an event. Previous Business: John Neighbors looked into a letter from the Harris County Appraisal Board that was brought to the attention of our Board previously. The conclusion is that although proof of qualification for homestead exemptions is random, it can cost an elderly citizen their exemption if it is not provided within 30 days. The Board suggested this information be brought to the attention of our Seniors in every possible way. New Business: Walter Thomas talked about Tax Exemption and other issues related to tax concerns. Meeting adjourned 3:03 PM.
