Monday, March 18: It's the day after St. Patrick's Day and it is time for a little party! We will have musical entertainment by Bill Story and have a delicious dessert to spoil your supper appetite. Don't forget to wear something green. 2:30 - 3:30. $2.00 2. Tuesday, March 19: The movie that helped make Ken Kesey, Michael Douglas and Jack Nicholson famous, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, is being presented on The Alley Theater stage. We will attend the 10:00 morning matinee and have lunch at the Sambuca Jazz Cafc and then tour the old Rice Hotel that is now known as the Rice Lofts. 9:00 - 3:30. $20.00. 3. Monday, March 25: Let's travel back to Lambert Hall to see the Marriage of Figaro. First performed in 1786 with music composed by Mozart, the opera tells us the story of Figaro, Susanna and their employers and many others. We will find that infidelity, lust and love have been around forever. 9:30- 1:00. $5.00. 4. Wednesday, April 3: All ages are invited to hear our local police and an agent from the department of Public Safety speak on Safe Driving For The Elderly. They will address the new traffic laws, how to drive safely and how to decide when to stop. 10:00 -11:30. Free. 5. Friday, April 5: Explore the rich history of Vice Regal Mexico (1521-1821) at the Friday Morning Lecture at the MFA. Paintings and decorative arts from Mexico City are on display. We will enjoy the lecture and tour. 9:30 - noon. Price varies. 6. Don't forget that tax preparation help is offered every Friday through April 12 from 10:00 -1:00. Free., Sneak Preview: 1. Thursday, April 18: The Friends of Hermann Park want us to come and revisit their delightful Bayou Park Lands on Almeda Road. The educational center, ponds, walkways and mini forest are a surprise and comfort in the middle of the city. 1:00 - 3:30. Free. 2. Friday, April 19: Defensive driving classes offered by AARP volunteers. You need to attend both classes April 19 and April 26. 9:00 -1:00. $10.00. 3. Tuesday, April 23: Everyone is invited to attend our Annual Health Fair. As in the past, we will try to obtain all your favorite testings --cholesterol, glucose, vision, hearing podiatry, etc. This year we are adding skin cancer and ekg screenings. We will have informational booths on home health care, insurance, housing alternatives, and much more. There is always great knowledge to be generated for people of all ages. 10:00 -1:00. Most screenings are free - there may be charges for some. Food and school supply donations are requested for the cholesterol, glucose and p.s.a. tests. 4. Wednesday, April 24: The Houston Baptist University has a new installation sponsored by the Houston Rug Hookers titled "Art Under Foot." In addition to all the handmade rugs, there is also a fabulous doll collection they've been curating for years. It's always a fun and educational trip. Join us! 10:30 - 12:30. Free.
