Monday, August 2, Craft Project: Mosaic planters will be done. We will hit some thrift shops to find the ceramics we would like to include in their pieces. $5 supply fee. 2:30 PM 2. Wednesday, August 4: Safety Preparedness: Marni Rosen from Retired and Senior Volunteer Program will talk about Citizens in Emergency Response Team. She will also talk about volunteer opportunities. 10:30 AM 3. Thursday, August 5: Museum of Fine arts trip-Inverted Utopias. Over 250 works by 70 artists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Fee depends on membership 1:00 PM 4. Monday, August 9: Metro Service Presentation. FREE. Learn more about the metro system, and get your photo I.D made. 10:30 AM 5. Wednesday, August 11: Harwin shopping spree. Join the wholesale shopping spree right here in Houston. Fee $5 9:45 AM 6. Sunday, August 15: Mystery Trip. Those of you that enjoy a mystery and a guaranteed good time this is an opportunity you want to miss! $18 10:30-6 PM, limit of 12 7. Friday, August 20: Gulf Grey Hound Park. By popular request we are traveling to the Gulf Greyhound Park. Enjoy a delicious buffet at noon. Racing begins at 1:30. 11:00 AM $10, limit of 24 8. Tuesday, August 24: Theme Meal-Beat the Heat. This year we will have a delicious light lunch before our traditional ice cream social. We will have several flavors of ice cream and toppings. Entertainment provided by the Sugar Sticks. 11:30 AM $4 9. Thursday, August 26: Tour Channel 11. We will tour the studios of channel 11 where we will see the day- to- day operations, cameras, and equipment and learn how programs make it from the studio to the television. 10:30 AM FREE Sneak Preview: Holiday Tea Dance- sponsored by the West University Rotary and possibly the IBC bank. Johnny Dyson and the Bank Notes will be providing the musical entertainment. Held at the West U Recreation Center. 1-4 PM on Friday, December 17. Other business: Tai Chi numbers have increased and we are happy we can offer it again. We are working on: Senior Only Water Aerobics class as well as Intro To Weight Training-beginning with instruction by a personal trainer. If there is enough interest weight training could become part of our weekly offering.
