1. Monday, January 13: Senior Services is providing an informational session on
Property Taxes presented by Walter Thomas, Director of The City of West
University Place Department of Finance. He will present information on
future rates, laws, installment plans, and deferrals. He will also answer any
questions you may have on related issues. 2:00 - 3:00. Free. All ages are
invited.
2.. Thursday, January 16: The Council on Alcohol andDrugs willprovide a 50-
minute presentation entitled, Properly Managing Prescription Drugs and other
Medication. 10:30 -11:30. Free. All ages are invited.
3. Tuesday, January 21: MFA Musical Club. The program includes a short
lecture and slide show on Old Masters and impressionists. After the lecture, a
concert will be provided that includes vocal, piano, and flute solos. We will
enjoy a group lunch at the Cafe Express before returning. This presentation is
free to the public 10:00 - Free.
4. Thursday, January 23: Come with us to the Adults Plus luncheon in the
museum district, where music or educational presentations will be provided.
This month Rabbi Karff will be speaking. Reportedly the meal is delicious and
company superb. 11:00 -1:00. $5.00.
5. Friday, January 31: Join us for an Asian theme meal. After the meal Jean
Kosky and Mary Dipboye will provide a short presentation on the purpose of
10,000 villages non profit organization. They will bring art from Asian
artisans who support their families through this organization. 11:00 -1:00.
$3.00.
6. Wednesday, February 5: A tour is planned to the city of Schulenburg, Texas.
This small, quaint, community was settled in the late 1800's. Pioneers built the
nationally recognized painted churches of Amannsville, Dubina, High Hill and
Praha. They were experts in the artistry and handiwork of 191` century
Europe. All four churches contain ornate altars, intricately painted columns,
elevated ceiling arches covered with complex designs and stained glass
windows. A tour guide will accompany us on our tour and we will have a
delicious lunch at the popular Iron Horse Cafe. 8:00 - 4:00. Total cost $22.00.
7. Tuesday, February 11: Join us for the informational presentation on effective
techniques and methods for skin rejuvenation. The presenter is West
University resident, Janna Levindofsky, a licensed esthetician, owner/manager
of Image International, a company specializing in skin care procedures and
products. 2:00 - 3:00. Free. All ages are invited.
8. Monday, February 10& 17: Learn to make a beautiful vase, lamp base or
candleholder using the reverse collage technique on transparent glass
container. This is a simple craft technique that is fun and creative. All
materials are supplied except the glassware. 2:00 - 3:00. The class is free
although you will need to bring your own glassware.
Sneak Preview:
1. Wednesday, February 26: A short seminar on hormone replacement therapy
is planned that will enlighten us about alternative therapies and the pro's and con's of
synthetic hormone use. Presenter Shannon Maguadog has a doctor of pharmacy
degree, a BS in biology and extensive knowledge in bio-identical hormone
replacement. 10:30 -11:30. Free. All ages are invited.
