HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 1347 Canvassing Results of 1989 Election I 'UJ!I!lD:LL1.",J LI -.lIIIIIIUlllhl LIJ1:Iq..: r I " TLJJ~ - --U~-- ORDINANCE NUMBER 1347 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS, ON MAY 6, 1989; CONTAINING FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHE'REAS, the,City Council of the:. City, of West. Universtty, Place, Texas, (the IICityll), ordained that an election be held in the City on the 6th day of May, 1989, for the purpose of electing a Mayor and four Council Members of said City for. a;:\two..,yea'r term as ~prescribed by the City Charter; and WHEREAS, the returns of such election, have been duly and legally made and submitted to the City Council of the City for canvassing, and a tabulation of the returns for each election precinct and for absentee voting, as canvassed and tabulated by the City Council of the City and shown in Exhibit A attached hereto, reflect that the sum of precinct totals for each candidate as follows: 084 fl 'j -~ Laura C. Redeker Counci 1 Member 1155 votes Buddy Bell Council Member 1094 votes Pat Malone Counci 1 Member 1024 votes NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, THAT: Section 1. All of the recitals contained in the preamble of this Ordinance are found to be true and are adopted as findings of fact by this City Council and as part of its judgment, particularly the results of the election described therein as canvassed and tabulated in the preamble hereof and as shown in, and made a part hereof for all purposes, Exhibit A attached hereto. ~ Ordinance Number 1347 085 Section 2. As a result of such canvass and tabulation it i~~ereby determined that Laura C. Higley, with a total of 1232 votes cast for her. was elected MAYOR of the City of West University Place. Texas; and that Buddy Bell. with a total number of 1094 votes cast for him; and Jim Jenkins. with a total number of 1182 votes cast for him; and Janet L. Redeker, with a total number of 1155 votes cast for her; and Bill Watson with a total number of 1097 votes cast for him; have been elected COUNCILMEMBERS of the City of West University Place, Texas. Section 3. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to make the appropriate entries of information appearing in the tabulation of precinct results shown in Exhibit A attached hereto in the election register maintained by the City in accordance with provisions of Section 67.006 of the TEXAS ELECTION CODE. o Section 4. If any word, phrase, clause. sentence, paragraph, section or other part of this ordinance or the application thereof to any person or circumstance, shall ever be held to be invalid or unconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder of this ordinance and the application of such word, phrase. clause, sentence, paragraph, section or other part of this ordinance to any other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby. Section 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of the conflict only. Section 6. The City Council officially finds, determines and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date, hour, place and subject of each meeting at which this ordinance was discussed. considered or acted upon was given in the manner required by the Open Meetings Law, TEX. REV. CIV. STAT. ANN. art. 6252-17. as amended. and that each such meeting has been open to the public as reguire~ by law at all times during such discussion, consideration and.action. The City Council ratifies, approves and confirms such notices and the contents and posting thereof. Section 7.
