HomeMy WebLinkAboutORD 1462 - ORD Canvassing Returns of 1993 Election I I I II 'I I I I ORDINANCE NUMBER 1462 AN ORDINANCE CANVASSING THE RETURNS AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE GENERAL [LECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS, ON MAY 1, 1993; CONTAINING FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. II II I II I * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSI1Y PLACE, TEXAS: II I! WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of West University Place, Texas, (the lICity"), ordained that an election be held in the City on the 1st day of May, 1993, for the purpose of electing one Mayor and four Council Members for two year terms; and , WHEREAS, said election was called and notice given in accordance 'Iwith the law, and the election was held in all material respects in Ilconformity with the law; and WHEREAS, the returns of such election have been duly and legally I'made and submitted to the City Council of the City for canvassing, and a tabulation of the returns for each election precinct and for early , voting, as canvassed and tabulated by the City Council of the City and !shown in Exhibit A attached hereto, reflect the vote totals for each Icandidate, as follows: I I I I Bill Watson Mayor 2117 votes 'i ,I I I I I Bob Kelly Mayor 1912 votes Tom Rushing Counc il Member 2096 votes Stan McCandless Council Member 2043 votes Teresa Fogler Council Member 1992 votes Linda Lewis Council Member 1963 vote s Carol Burke Council Member 1932 votes Larry Wiggin Council Member 1666 votes Janice Lang Council Member 1524 votes I I ,I I ,I ,I rI :i I I II Ordinance No. 1462 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY !IPLACE, THAT: II Section 1. All of the recitals contained in the preamble of this IIOrdinance are found to be true and are adopted as findings of fact by Ilthis City Council and as part of its judgment, particularly the results !iof the election described therein as canvassed and tabulated in the I,preamble hereot and as shown in, and made a part hereof for all purposes, Exhibit A attached hereto. 1 Section 2. As a result of such canvass and tabulation it is hereby determined and declared that Bill Watson. with a total of 2lll votes lcast for him, hllS been elected MAYOR of the City of West University Place, Texas, To!n_ Rushina. with a total of ~ votes cast for him, Stan McCandless. with a total of 2043 votes cast for him, Teresa Foaler. with a total of 1992 votes cast for her, and Linda Lewis. with I a total of 196~ votes cast for her, have been elected COUNCIL MEMBERS lof the City of West University Place, Texas. I Section 3. The City Secretary is hereby authorized and directed to make the appropriate entries of information appearing in the tabulation of precinct results shown in Exhibit A attached hereto in I'the election register maintained by the City in accordance with ~ provisions of Section 67.006 of the TEXAS ELE~TION CODE. Section 4. If any word, phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph, Isection or other part of this ordinance or the application thereof to iany person or circumstance, shall ever be held to be invalid or lunconstitutional by any court of competent jurisdiction, the remainder lof this ordinance and the application of such word, phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph, section or other part of this ordinance to any other persons or circumstances shall not be affected thereby. Section 5. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed to the extent of'the conflict only. Section 6. The City Council officially finds, determines and declares that a sufficient written notice of the date, hour, place and [subject of each meeting at which this ordinance was discussed, considered or acted upon was given in the manner required by the Open I Meetings Law, TEX. REV. CIV. STAT. ANN. art. 6252-17, as amended, and that each such meeting has been open to the public as required by law at all times during such discussion, consideration and action. The City Council ratifies, approves and confirms such notices and the !contents and posting thereof. I Section 7. The public importance of this measure and the requirements of the law create an emergency and an urgent public necessity requiring that this Ordinance be passed and take effect as an emergency measure, and a state of emergency is hereby declared, and this Ordinance is accordingly passed as an emergency measure and shall ,take effect and be in force immediately from and after its passage.
